English Book Club
The English Book Club is back to its normal format, meaning that the next session will be held "live" at Brigitte and Keith's place (Conception area). It is open to advanced level and native English speakers and focuses on one book each month.
In October, discussion will be about The Glass Room by British author Simon Mawer. Theguardian.com tells us it is a historical novel set in Czechoslovakia in the late 1930s; a novel of ideas, propelled by plot and characterised by an almost dreamlike simplicity of telling. The Glass Room of the title is not merely a piece of architecture within the book: it is the architecture of the book. And, Wikipedia tells us that when World War II arrives the Glass House owners must flee the country. As they struggle abroad, their home passes through several new owners, with each new inhabitant falling under the spell of the glass room.
